Adulterated Turmeric?
I recently read in the news that some people in the Asian countries are getting sick after comsuming adulterated turmeric. It is easy to mix a similar color to the turmeric powder, and it is hard to notice anything wrong with the powder by visual inspection. This is not a new problem for turmeric. Dishonest merchants are using these tactics for decades. These merchants or suppliers mix cheap colors to the turmeric powder to increase their profits. Some of these colored powders are harmless, but it reduces the effectiveness of turmeric. But many color powders are harmful to our bodies when we consume them along with the turmeric powder. Since I turmeric milk every night to improve my immunity, it is critical that I buy pure turmeric powder. See my previous post on this topic https://www.improvehealthnaturally.com/turmeric-milk/
Steps to take to avoid impure turmeric powder
The question is how to avoid buying adulterated turmeric powder. There are two choices. The first option is to buy turmeric powder only from a reputed retailer. The second and more involved option is to purchase raw turmeric roots from well-known retailers. For the first option, I do not buy the turmeric powder from any online retailers, including the biggest one we all use all the time, because it is easier for dishonest retailers to use online stores to sell their harmful product. It is also harder to trace the source of the turmeric powder in the online world. I think buying the turmeric powder from reputed physical stores like Costco or Whole Foods is a safer choice.
I have never tried the second option. But one can buy raw turmeric roots from any well-known local grocery store (note: turmeric roots appear very similar to ginger roots). One can dry these roots in the sunlight and then grind them in a mixer-grinder to get the pure turmeric powder. One can mix this fresh ground turmeric powder in the warm milk and drink to support the body’s immunity.
