Gymnema and more
To manage blood sugar, the first step is to measure the blood sugar level. I was hesitant in the beginning because the only way to measure blood sugar is to pinch one’s finger to get a blood sample. After many searches for a non-pinch option, I ended up buying a regular blood monitoring device from Walmart. It involves collecting a blood sample from the finger. I have to say, it is not as bad as I previously thought. It is not fun but it is very manageable. Keep in mind, my job requires me to leave my house by 7:15 am every day and I was still able to manage to check my blood sugar in the morning.
After a few days of daily reading, I switched to once a week. Readings were discouraging, nothing was working, and fasting reading still was still on the higher side. So I decided to take multiple steps. I cut down the carbohydrate intake in the dinner by roughly 25%. I didn’t feel hungry at all. Then I read a book on natural remedies and learned that Gymnema is a supplement that helps the body manage the blood sugar naturally. I introduced two capsules of Gymnema – one in the morning and one just after dinner – in my daily routine. Needless to say, along with daily running on the treadmill, this change in the diet and addition of the supplement is working. My fasting and non-fasting readings are well within the limits.
