Yoga for a better health
I have written in my previous posts that I am not into extensive workouts, lifting weights, or going to a gym. I am just looking for better health and a healthy body. I believe I can achieve the desired results inside the comfort of my house. The only exercise equipment that I have is a treadmill because I don’t like to run outside in the cold winter. I run for 20 minutes on the treadmill every evening (about 2 miles). This increases the blood flow and makes me sweat. But I knew this was not enough, and I need more than just running. After some reading, I realized that the ancient practice of yoga would be the perfect addition to my daily routine.
Yoga supports my belief in mind-body harmony; I believe that our mind plays an equal, if not more prominent, role in our health than physical exercises. Yoga is one of the routines that seamlessly combines both mind and body and it does not require any “equipment”. If you wish, you could buy a fancy yoga mat but that is not needed at all – a simple towel would work. I perform yoga routines, also called asanas, on a simple rug in my house.
I consider myself a beginner in the world of yoga and my body is not flexible to do all the poses. So I have started with simple poses and spend roughly 20-30 minutes every day doing these simple poses. I am not going to list all the poses that I perform because I believe there are much better resources you can find on the Internet. I have found several excellent beginner yoga videos on YouTube. It is not that important which video you follow but it is important to maintain a daily routine – the discipline. Maintaining a daily routine will improve the flexibility and you will be able to perform those poses faster and able to explore and incorporate more complex poses.
Some of the poses in yoga incorporate meditation and it helps to take the stress out and relaxes both my mind and body. I highly recommend yoga for wellness and I believe it is an essential ingredient in the journey to improve our health naturally. Hope to see more people practicing yoga!
Enjoy the journey to a better health!!
